Literature, a gift for him that you can both enjoy

What makes great gifts for your man: Books!

By S. Rowe

Books are a very personal present, this holds true for men as well. They say a lot about who your man is and what he stands for in the world.

He might be busy with his nose in some literature and adore your gift, but at least now you will have something else to talk about besides the mundane everyday topics such as politics, work, and “what’s for dinner?”.

Personality traits of that special someone should go into your book-shopping efforts.  Simple Amazon.com purchasing is not for everyone, especially the collector of classic literature or the author-conscious man.  If you know what he likes and usually reads, start from there.  I bought some books for a boyfriend once so that we could talk about the authors that I liked.  This worked out well because you now have more books that you can read once he is done.

Take the road less traveled, as Robert Frost would say.  If he is obsessed with sports, get him a book about his favorite team or biography about his beloved player.

You can go Dutch and get something that you also enjoy, perhaps a gentle nudge in the form of a cookbook with recipes you will both enjoy, maybe he will even start to cook things that you like!

If you have tried to explain your feelings on a certain topic to him, and he still does not see things your way,  go ahead and let him read a non-fictional book about something you argue about, and see where that conversation leads…

If he is into fiction I recommend Geek Love by Donna Tart, it’s romantic and visceral in all the right ways!
